WE ARE BACK-- Happy Easter

As you can see the kids are growing fast and both of them have their own personalities... It has been so much fun to see them interact and become good friends. Lucci turns 3 tomorrow and Baby Paul is 9 months old today. We have been so blessed with such a busy life.

Things we love to do right now.... Sit outside on a blanket on the lawn and just play and laugh. Go for walks, and runs at Howarth Park. Go to the Park, take baths, sing, read and go to the library.

Our family started a new business and has been working hard to establish a customer base. We love having Dadda at home to go with us to the park.

I have been part of a Biggest Loser Challenge with our family and Sam's family. Koli was our inspiration and has continued to inspire us to get healthy and to find our Best Life. I LOVE the personal trainer I am working with. His name is Trainer Todd and he is just amazing. He has a great blog that I will put a link up for. He writes articles and continually is teaching me new things.

We are excited for Easter Sunday and for the FUN that comes with Spring time in Sonoma County. We miss all of you and can't wait to see you again..

What happened to the Unga Family?

I must apologize for my lack of content, updates and most of all exciting news about our family. I was introduced to Facebook about three months ago and since then it has been so hard to keep my blog going...

SO, did the baby come or what? YES he was two weeks late, but he definitely made his appearance. Paula (Paul) Elijah Unga was born Saturday June 27th at 11:49am. He weighed in at 9 lbs. 3 oz. and 22 inches long. Can you believe that? The crazy thing is that I only pushed for 14 minutes. We were very grateful that he came that fast.

Birth was beautiful, he is an amazing baby, and his big sister Lucci could not be more proud of him. She is coping with sharing the spotlight quite well.

We are so blessed as a family to have been given the opportunity to have such wonderful little spirits join us. When I am up at night staring into the eyes of this little boy I often wonder how I am so lucky to be his mom, and I think of all the great things that are ahead for him.

Caitlin, the ultrasound tech I work with at Prenatal Peek is so impatient that she insisted we take a peek at baby yesterday. He looks good, but is not showing his face!! Fun at work!

I made a deal with my husband that when we had children I would get to name the girls and he gets to name the boys... So I have only 9 weeks to go and my husband tells me that he is not sure what the name will be, but he is also not offering any suggestions or allowing me to offer my suggestions. I told our good friend who is an attorney and he told me I needed to retain him as counsel so I could recant my prior agreement. Kelii said he would tell me in the hospital.

So what do people ask you when you are having a baby? Oh what are you going to name him... I don't know? and I have no say? Is this crazy or what?

A new Dora Swimsuit, a Dora towell, and Dora books. She immediately began trying to put her swimsuit on and she wore it all morning until the party!

Dadda Bball?

One night Kelii left to go play basketball at the church and Lucci asked me where he was so I taught her the word B-ball, knowing that Basketball is too hard to say. She is so cute when she says it, so now whenever Kelii is gone she will ask me Dadda B-ball? I used to try to explain where he was like work, or at Church for a meeting, or the store. She would just stare at me and then say again Dadda B-ball? So Now... Dadda B-ball? Yep Dadda B-ball all the time!

Do you See the THREE LINES?

Last week we had our trip to the Hospital to get our Ultrasound! We were excited to see the baby even though we already knew it was a BOY we wanted to see the heart, the lungs, legs, hands, etc. So as we were viewing all these parts of the body the ultrasound tech asked us if we wanted to know what we were having. We said of course... She said "well IT'S A GIRL!" We looked at each other and then back to the screen... then the part that kills me... Do you see the THREE LINES? In my head I was thinking what the blank is she talking about? I have seen the boy parts on this baby and we are having a BOY! I then calmly asked her how sure she is to say that it is a GIRL? She told me that they don't tell their patients unless they are sure! Then she looked at us and said "I understand were you hoping for a BOY this time?" I just shrugged it off and said "Oh we will be happy no matter what we just want to make sure the baby is healthy.

Needless to say as soon as the scan was over I called Prenatal Peek and told Caitlin our tech that I would be there in 5 minutes to get a scan because I need to see in 3D if this woman was CRAZY or if they were wrong. SO we arrived and as soon as Caitlin put the probe on my stomach this little baby opened HIS legs as far as he could to reveal in 3D little boy parts!

WARNING: Don't always believe the people at the hospital sometimes they see THREE LINES!!

BIG NEWS!!

We are very excited to announce that we will have a new addition join our home the first of June!! This pregnancy has been more difficult and we are pretty sure that this one will be a BOY! We will double check this week so I will keep you posted. We are so grateful for the timing of this new baby in our lives as things have been hard with the economy in California and we are looking forward to the blessings of a new child in our home!

December 26, 2008 marked a monumental day for me and for our little family. It is my 5 year mark of being Cancer Free.... During this holiday season it rang through my mind over and over, and I kept thinking of all the wonderful things I have been blessed with...

My daughter Luseane is such a blessing and a miracle in my life!
My husband Kelii has been such a rock and a solid foundation for me during all times.
My faith in the Lord and the blessings that come from knowing who I am and where I am going will forever be the ultimate gift I have been given.
All of you who have loved me, nurtured me, shared with me and strengthened me through your stories. Thank You!

MY SISTER HILLARY!

Many of you don't know my Sister Hillary, but many do and for those of you who do you will understand why I had to give some Praise to this woman... First we have shared many things together, December Birthdays is one of them, Her birthday was December 17th. We have shared a room, a bed, toys, clothes, sports equipment, goals, books, ideas, recipes, wisdom, laughter, cold mornings running and most of all fun! She is my Big Sister and someone I have always looked up to in life. She was a honor roll student in High School and pushed me to do better in my classes. She always seemed to do what is right which didn't help me during my teenage years.. I was the one who was always in trouble.. so thank goodness for Stephanie, my little sister:-)..

She is the one who we called MOM.. for good and bad reasons. But the one thing I can tell you about my sister is that she always thinks of other people and ways to do special things for them. I can remember numerous times coming home from my last game or on my birthday to see my room decorated and candy or flowers on my bed with a note from Hillary telling me how proud she was of me and how much she loved me.

During my cancer treatments she once again showed up on many occasions to see how I was doing and she even came with me to my treatments. During that time of my life many of my friends seemed to disappear, but those I consider my best friends were always there. I love you Hill and can't thank you enough for your advice, your example and for being my Sister. I truly believe we are Sisters by chance, friends by choice!

For all of you who have a December Birthday I want to give you a SHOUT OUT!! I have one and this year was the BIG 30! Can you believe it? Me 30? Well I made it this far... So hopefully there are more to come...

I have to give some big THANKS to my husband for putting together a 30 Year old Birthday Bash with his family. It was so much fun! He planned it, cooked the food and we had a great time. It was everything I wanted for my Birthday. Except I wish my family could have come... Thanks to everyone who contributed!

A tribute to my Grandfather Kenneth P. Hendrickson

67 years ago on this very date December 7, 1941, there was a bomb that hit Pearl Harbor that changed America, and many families who lived here at the time. My Grandfather Kenneth P. Hendrickson was one of the many men who were drafted at the age of 18 just after graduation from high school. He was drafted to the Air Force Engineers because of his experience working on farm machinery and welding. He helped repair the heavy equipment at the air bases. He was married to my grandmother 6 months before they graduated because they knew he would be leaving. Young and in love you could say, and Grandma got pregnant before Grandpa left over seas so their first son my Uncle Raymond was born while Grandpa was serving our country.. He did not see Raymond until he was 13 months old.... What an amazing story they have and what amazing people they are to me. Grandpa served our country faithfully and stayed true to his new bride the whole time. The part that always amazes me is that they wrote letters to each other everyday for 2 years 20 months and 2 days.

I want to pay tribute to my Grandpa and all others who gave of their time and freedom to sacrifice so that I can have the liberty I have today. He just turned 85 on December 4th and I want to honor him and let people know what a hero he and my grandma are to me. They have taught me values and given me a heritage that is so valuable.

As many of you know I am a Personal Publishing Consultant for a company called Heritage Makers. I have worked with them from there small beginning in a sprinkler warehouse in Springville, UT. This week this little company got an endorsement that is incredible. Oprah put us on her All-Time Favorite Gift List... I am so grateful that the Lord has given this little company a chance to grow.... The owner and a good friend of mine, Doug Cloward is terminally ill with Lymphoma Cancer. I have seen miracles happen with him and with this work as I believe we are truly helping to turn the hearts of the children to their Fathers and the Hearts of the Fathers to their children....

Thanks to all of you who have supported me, worked with me and allowed me the opportunity to help you understand the power of story in your life. I am always available and willing to help anyone who wants to learn how to store their pictures, do digital scrapbooks or write a family history... Big Thanks again to all of you...

Halloween Fun!

We wondered what would happen when Lucci went trick or treating... Would she get what was going on or would she get bored? Um what do you think? I wish I had a picture of her face when she saw the big candy bowls at people's houses and how she would hold out her bucket and just giggle as they put the candy in. This was UNREAL to her... Free candy? What and mom is letting me?

She was a tiger and loved her costume... We had a blast with the Harumi's and the Smith's. We only went up and down about two streets but she got a full bucket and she ran from house to house.. . More pictures to come...

Some New Things about Lucci

I went in the kitchen when the buzzer rang to find this... I can't wait til she can cook!
There are so many new things that Lucci is doing and saying that I thought I better update for all those so far away...
Words that she says
Hi, Bye, Dadda, Momma, Nanna, Ice, Eyes, Ball, Baby, and the one we think is very unique for a 19 month old "Water" She uses this for the rain, the bath, the shower, the fountain, every liquid that she drinks and basically any liquid form. It is very cute to hear her say it!

She loves to read and we are now reading the Book of Mormon in a very short version. She will bow her head for prayer and try to close her eyes. Sometimes she tries to sneak food if the prayer is too long. She loves to try to put the binky in her babies mouth and bath time is by far her favorite. The other day I had to practically get in the bath tub to get her out... and as I was carrying her away she kept saying "Bye Water, Bye Water."

She loves her new little golf set that Daddy bought her and she tries to copy him and play golf. Her new favorite thing is her felt book. If you don't have one of these please let me know and I can help you... It is such a great quiet book for church, a perfect thing for kids to learn shapes and she carries it with her everywhere, even to bed at night. She even plays with it in the bath tub.. You may remember felt at Church. This company even has the LDS Book of Mormon stories in a quiet book and also for flannel board. I LOVE IT!
We are learning that life gets better and better and even though I have to be that much faster, Lucci keeps us smiling and on top of our game. Life is good and we love and miss all of you!

Breast Cancer Awareness... My Support!

I wanted to give my love and support to all those who are struggling or have experienced the effect of Breast Cancer in their life! It is October and that means it is Breast Cancer Awareness... I of course as a Survivor am a big advocate of making sure everyone is aware that Breast Cancer is something all of us need to think about. It does not matter how old you are or if this disease has been in your family. We need to do our checks and exams.
My love goes out to those who have lost their battle, and who are heroes in my book. I am so blessed to be here and to be going on my 5 years of cancer free life. In December I will be clear and they say I will be cured! What an amazing life I have been given
What a blessing this experience has been for me and I am so happy to share my story for others so they can find support during this time! Keep the hope alive!

Propisition 8 and Brushing Teeth!

Have you ever tried to brush the upper teeth of your 18 month old? She doesn't understand lift up your lip...open wide.. or you will not like that feeling of dirty teeth in the morning. I have began to teach her by doing it myself and watching her then follow along. Sometimes this consists of more force than willingness, nevertheless, she will thank me one day.

This same experience of brushing teeth with my 18 month old is what is happening with Proposition 8 in our California neighborhoods, counties and the state. What is wrong with allowing same sex couples to be married and to change the term of marriage? EVERYTHING! Just like when I am trying to teach my daughter at 18 months why brushing her upper teeth are important it is how I feel trying to teach my neighbors friends and those around me in California. First let me clarify I have no hard feelings or hate towards those who choose a different sexual preference. I simply feel strongly about this Proposition because it takes my rights away to teach my child. She learns by example, by watching those she loves and trusts.. and that means if she had a teacher who told her it was okay to date another girl, or even marry one. How will that affect her? It takes an issue that should be taught in the home and something that has everything to do with morals and values and gives this right to those who believe differently than our family. If this is about rights, treating people fair, and all the things those say on NO on Prop 8 what about my rights as a parent, and what about the rights of my daughter to choose who teaches her how to brush her upper teeth?

New Things about Lucci!

Okay so many of you are not close to us and have not been able to share in the FUN of our our Lucci growing up so I thought I would post some of the things she is doing...

New language that we cannot quite understand, but she is getting really good at making animal noises.. Especially a monkey.. OOO OOO AAA AAA.. Very Funny!

Watching TV.. Lucci does not like to watch TV except sports, she just sits with Kelii and watches football, basketball, tennis, golf, table tennis and all those other sports he thinks are great. So I was so excited when I turned on Curious George and she sat with me and watched it for about 10min. I guess that is good, but sometimes I wish she could just sit down for more than 10 minutes.

Head massages... I am often asked by Kelii to give him a head massage and Lucci watches me. This week I was sitting on the floor and she got up on the couch and began giving me a head massage. I was very impressed at how good she is so early on!

Throwing Tantrums... YES can you believe it? TANTRUMS.. arms flying, feet kicking and tears flowing. I was like what are you doing? This is usually when we have to get out of the swimming pool, I am holing another child, or she doesn't get candy.

Cleaning.. I am so proud of Lucci, because if she spills something she runs and gets a towel and immediately begins cleaning it up.

Stinky.. Lucci has learned to tell me that she is "stinky" by waving her hand in the air and pinching her nose with her hand. It is so cute. I laugh every time.

Where Did Summer Go?

Summer has come and gone and our little family has also come and gone. We have traveled a lot this summer and it has been very fun for us.Places we have visited:
Sonoma, CA--Relay for Life. This was so much fun Lucci did the Survivor lap with me!
San Jose, CA--Scrapbook Expo with thousands of crazy women
Angels Camp, CA--stayed at the resort and relaxed with the McComber Family
Monterey, CA--Visited our family the Tulau's, went to the most amazing Monterey Bay Aquariam, ate great food and the reason we went was to speak at a Youth Fireside
Provo, UT--Stayed with Grandma and Grandpa Overson and did MANY things over the 4th of July with the whole Overson Fam Bam including visiting the Bean Museam (thanks Katie)
Winnipeg, Canada--World Conference on Breast Cancer
and next month we will go to Disneyland for Heritage Makers Reunion!

I have many random pictures of all these trips and yet I don't have any of some trips because my camera is MIA...so I thought I would just post them all together in a slide show!!

The Beautiful kids in these pictures are Sydney, Drew, Ethan, Abby Brinley and Bennett. They are Lucci's cousins on my side, and then the beautiful Tongan girl is Lucci's cousin on Keli'i's side.. her name is Presley, and she LOVES the camera!

Thank you everyone who I met along the way and to all those who made our Summer SOOO much FUN! I promise that I will now resume posting on my blog to update all of you about our family. Small and Sleepy Things

What small things can make you happy! I came home this morning from my attempt to run, but was more like a slow jog, to see this.... Lucci wakes up every morning around 6:30am and comes to bed with us to sleep for another 2 hours. She is snuggler and finds the closest person to snuggle up to and sleep. I love her so much. She will then wake up just bright eyed and say "Hi"

I think in our busy world it is these small and simple things that make me so happy and help me to see that life is actually VERY GOOD. I have been given so much and am so grateful for these quiet moments that help me see that.

World Conference on Breast Cancer

I am in Winnipeg Canada to teach a workshop on Healing through Writing at the World Conference on Breast Cancer. There are women here from 33 different countries. I came alone and I now have many wonderful friends. Today we did a silent walk to the capital. It was AMAZING. The police closed off the streets, and 500 woman walked together and carried these pink woman to stick in the ground at the capital to help create awareness about Breast Cancer and to memorialize the lives of those who have died. Needless to say we were walking silently with tears streaming down our faces

Next to experiences on my mission this has to have been the most emotional and spiritual experience for me. I have laughed, cried, discussed issues, made friends, and relived moments of my own cancer experience. The beauty of diversity and challenges in our lives is that they take us to higher places and bind us with others from all walks of life. I am so blessed and still sit in awe as I think of what has happened and how today I HAVE SURVIVED!! I have been given so much, especially my beautiful daughter Lucci. What a miracle, what a testament to God's love and grace.

Learning Lessons of Love

I have had many lessons in my lifetime, that consist of heart break, life and death and the joy and beauty of the gospel... This week I learned the lesson of pure love. Tuesday night I had a miscarriage and while our baby was only 8 weeks old and still new to me, I mourned that day.

I then knelt in prayer and felt overwhelmed by love. What a great power that God has to give love and comfort and peace when we are crying out for it. I want to thank all of you who have been here for me and been a strength to me. I know there is a purpose for this at this time, and it gives a great opportunity for me to empathize with those who have felt this pain also.

My life has purpose and my understanding of that purpose has been increased through this experience... All these things shall give thee experience.

It is so evident how much Lucci is loved and we felt this love so strongly as we had her 1st Birthday Celebration. My family came from Utah and Kelii's family came from all over. We had ward members, work friends and many people come to show their love. It was such a great time and the funniest part is the Lucci will probably not remember a thing... But don't you worry I have already made her a book full of the details so she will not forget and she will know what happened on her 1st Birthday.

Aloha and Mahalo... It was so GREAT to be back in the place where our family began and especially to see Ramona married and for everyone there to see Luci. We did not do much except family things, but we stayed at the beautiful Turlte Bay Resort. Luci traveled all over the island with her Auntie Moana and Grandma Luseane.

Luci is growing up too fast.. I have decided to copy my friend Brittany and post the monthly updates from Luci and her new things. Everyday I am so amazed at how smart she is and how much she loves to be a part of the party. Luci is a great example to our family and she seems to make friends everywhere we go. We have babysitters lined up and asking for open dates.

New things Luci is doing

1. Eating.. This was a huge debate between Daddy and Mommy, but Daddy won.. She loves her cereal. She also will eat anything Grandma or the Aunties feed her.

2. She loves her books and reading time. She tries to turn the pages. She especially loves reading the scriptures. She loves pictures of Jesus.

3. She loves to play on the computer and often acts like she knows what she is doing.

4. We took her swimming for the first time at the resort where Kelii works and she LOVES the water.

5. She started to crawl and surprised us all. She is now getting faster and faster and can't sit still for a minute.

4th of July

Our First Fourth of July!! It was so much fun to have a barbeque and to spend time with Grandma Luseane at her house on the 4th of July. That night all the boys created our own fireworks show and Luseane LOVED IT!

Trip to Utah

Luseane and Mommy took a trip to Utah to see the Overson clan. It was SOOO wonderful to be back at home and of course Luseane loved being spoiled by Grandma and Grandpa and the Aunties. She was able to spend time with her cousins and she was great on the plane ride. After the trip Mommy has a true Testimony as to why you need a Mommy and a Daddy to raise your kids! I hope that the Overson clan reads this because I don't have any more pictures and I need the pictures you took while I was there. We love you all and MISS YOU so much!!

Time has passed so quickly and Luseane is growing so fast. She is now almost Five months old and has become so independent. We bought her a toy that she can jump in and move around, and she loves it!! When she is hungry she will practically rip the bottle out of your hands to hold it herself and she love to roll around on the ground. She has started to roll over in her sleep and snuggle her head face first into her blankets. She is trying to crawl and the Doctor told us to start making the house a "safe place." She is not a little baby anymore!!
